Cold weather is here!!!!

I know we have been over this before but wanted to re-post as a reminder.  I do know alot of people go into there garages for whatever reason, some have washers and dryers, some have games to play out there and some just to gaze out the windows and see what is going on outside but still from the comfort of a closed door. Whatever the reason that we spend time in our garages it is pretty nice when there is no cold or chilly weather blowing from under the door or from around the sides or top. Before it gets to cold be sure and check the bottom weather stripping to check for chinks, tears or missing pieces. Also if there is air coming in from around the sides or top we have the perimeter seal, that comes in several colors to match your trim or door. When it gets cold is a good time to grease and lubricate your rollers, door track as well as your opener track, if you don't have the correct lubricants we do have our maintenance pack that comes with the spray lube and tube of grease as well as the wax stick and instructions on what to lube and grease.  You can also give us a call and we can make an appointment to come out and do a yearly maintenance on your garage door and opener, our technician will inspect your springs, cables, rollers, track's and your opener, it's also a great time to check your remotes and keypad batteries, in our showroom we do have batteries available for you. If you really want it warmer you can even add insulation to your door to make it more climate controlled as well as a stronger door.

Liftmaster® 8550 DC Battery Backup belt drive

I have been posting off and on, even on other sites about this new technology. It has so many features, some we have set up in our showroom. Just a little more to show how Liftmaster® is making your home safer and more responsive to how you live. Here is a little more information on this great technology equipment.

Auto force and electronic limits means the garage door adapts to weather and changing environmental conditions, which means less maintenance for you.

Security + 2.0 technology is designed to communicate with the garage door opener in different frequencies.  This enhanced radio virtually eliminates interference and provides you with the highest level of security.

The Protector System® safely sensors project and invisible light beam across the garage door opening and automatically reverse the door if anything interrupts the beam while the door is going down.  Garage door opener lights turn on automatically when the Protector System infrared beam is broken.

Alert-2-close warning system provides UL325-compliant audible and visual warnings that the garage door is about to close when using the Timer-to-close, or remote closing features. (Timer-2-close is for sectional doors only, not one piece doors).

Patented Posilock® system ensures the door remains securely locked when it is closed.

Are You Ready For Winter???

The chilly weather is making it's way here and soon the cold!!!

You need to be one step ahead with your garage door and opener. Check and maintain your track, gears, springs and rollers to make sure they are in good condition and properly maintained. Also, be sure to check the weatherseal along the bottom of your garage door, if it is cracked, torn or has come loose it will allow cold air to come in underneath the door. If there is a draft around the top and sides of your door, we carry a perimeter seal that can be installed and help with that. It is always best to have a professional check your door each year to insure everything is working properly. We have trained technicians ready to serve you, we are just a phone call away.

Maybe you are the do-it-yourself type, we carry a Maintenance Pack that includes all the lubricants you will need and instructions to maintain your door and opener. You can purchase from any of our technicians or stop by our showroom and check out the changes that we have going on, when you want the best in technology, we have the answer for you.

Keypad for your Garage Door Opener

Can I add a garage door keypad to my opener? Yes you can . This question always follows someone locking themselves out of their house and they are without a garage door opener to get into their garage.  The garage door is now used more then the front door. It is a good investment. One trip form the locksmith can cost well over 100.00. Keypads cost generally around 45.00. You can add one to your specific brand and model normally but if needed there are universal ones available.
If you have a Liftmaster brand here is a really cool one you can add it is done by your fingerprint. Kinda scary! Universal key less entries are not real hard to program but if you do need help be sure to call us.

Answers to Your Garage Door Questions

Here are a few questions that are commonly asked in the garage door industry. Hope this answers a few questions you might have had or will have in the future.

How do I release the door from the operator so that I can open the garage door by hand?

With the garage door fully closed, simply pull the red release cord down toward the floor. Always take special caution whenever you release the garage door opener if the door is not in the fully closed position.

We heard a loud noise in the garage and have not been able to open the garage door since we heard the noise. What could possibly be wrong with the door?

It is highly likely that you have a broken spring that should be replaced by an experienced and qualified garage door service technician.

I have two springs on a shaft across the top of the door and one of the springs is broken. How do I know if I should change both springs or just the one spring that is broken?

We highly recommend that you change both springs at the same time, since both springs have been under the same amount of stress each time the door has been opened and closed. Unfortunately a visual inspection of the spring can not determine the further life expectancy of the spring.

The cable on the garage door appears to be fraying. Should we be very concerned about this problem?

If the cable is severely frayed to where there are only a few strands left that could break at any moment, the cable should be replaced by a qualified garage door service technician as soon as possible.

Is liftmaster really the best Garage Door Opener?

Liftmaster Vs Genie

Ok let's not start fist flying all you Genie fans. Simply put after 20 years of experience with garage door openers Lift master is the best. What would be nice is if I had a dollar for every time I did say that about them. They work straight out of the box. They are very consistent in figuring any problems they might have way before sending the units out to the public. We had the opportunity to meet someone who build the testing equipment for liftmaster and he let us in on some information about the company. He revealed to us that if one remote test bad the will not chance it and send it out. It all goes back for retesting. They have proved to be the best over the last 20 years. No I do not work for them. We are a small company that just like good products.

The most popular opener we sell is the belt drive model 3280 known for it' smooth quite operation. Next would be the 3240 screw drive and last the chain drive model 3265. If you pick one of the 3 you can't go wrong. Questions about choosing a garage door opener? Call us at 1-800-864-5701

Garage Door Monitor Tells you when your door is up or down.

No more getting out of bed and stumbling downstairs to check if the garage door is closed. The LiftMaster® Garage Door Monitor tells you if your garage door is open or closed from any room in your home.  Really easy to install probably take you all of 10 minutes to give you peace of mind at night.
It is amazing how many times that you will find the door open when you thought you had shut it. It is scary to think all night long you left your door open.! Here's how it happens you hit your garage door button it starts down and you go inside not waiting to watch it close fully. The door travels down almost closes and then right back up while you are now resting comfortably in your chair thinking your door is closed, but it's not!

With this garage door monitor you can sit in your chair and see if  the door is up or down by the green or red light that is on the monitor. When the door is open the lights red. When it's closed the light is green. That's it simply put. Everyone should have a garage door monitor for your peace of mind or your wifes:)

Balancing Your Garage Door

Balancing a garage door is not a circus act. It is a relationship between the weight of the garage door and the springs that counter the weight.  There is a simple way to check the balance of your garage door. An out of balance door will put extra load on your opener and can cause the opener to fail early.

To perform the test, close the door normally, detach your automatic opener. Stand at the middle of the door and lift it to the halfway mark and carefully let go. If the door closes with dramatic movement be ready to grab it.

If the door closes quickly then the spring tension is too weak; if the door continues to open the spring tension is too great. What you are looking for is no movement or very little. If the door stays in the position you put it in, you can continue on with your basic maintenance or inspections. If the door continues to move it will need additional adjustments.

We recommend that if you have a torsion spring system you call a professional. These springs hold hundreds of pounds of torque and if adjusted improperly can result in serious injuries.

Extension springs can run parallel to the track and can be adjusted. Keep in mind you should always have safety precautions in mind.

A balanced garage door will keep your automatic opener happy. Should you need to manually use your garage door it will operate easily and with proper balance.

Should you need a professional or technical support Call Us At 800-864-5701

Top 6 Reasons to Replace Your Garage Door

Nice change? You bet you can make a home look more pleasing to the eye by changing the garage doors. Take a minute to check the top 6 reasons to replace your door.

  1. Increase the value of your home – Replacing your old garage door with a newer stylish door will do wonders for the value of your home. It’s easier to sell your home when the garage looks great.

  1. Lower your heating and cooling bills with an R-16 garage door. – Properly insulating your garage door will pay for itself over time by reducing your utility bills if the garage is attached to the house.

  1. Reduce you maintenance time. – Most metal doors are low maintenance. They require mild soap and water for cleaning. No more scraping and painting.

  1. Protect items stored in your garage from the elements. – Most people use their garage not only for their cars but also their storage. To protect these items from becoming damaged by extreme heat or cold, you can choose an insulated door. You can also combine this with weather-stripping around the door.

  1. Prevent easy access to your home. – The garage door is the largest access to your home. New garage door openers now have rolling code technology. This makes it much harder to gain access when the opener uses one of 100 billion new codes each time the door is opened.

  1. Reduce the risk of injury. – Photo eyes are now mandatory on all garage door openers. The photo eyes can sense when something is in the way or passing through the opening when the door is closing. There are benefits to this, when the light beam is broken the door will reverse and go back up to prevent an injury and it will also turn on the light on the opener allowing you to see.
